Update: Million Mile Secrets confirms that this change is coming and that the old Freedom with 5x categories will no longer be available to new applicants. Since they have a business relationship with Chase, this information should be reliable.
Is there a new Chase Freedom in the works? Credit Boards user C316 reported yesterday that Chase is planning to offer a new card called the Freedom Unlimited that offers 1.5% cash back on all transactions. The new card would have no rotating 5% categories.

Surely if you have been around the points and miles hobby for any time you have heard the phrase “earn and burn,” but I believe that earn and burn is an outdated idea. Some people probably just fell out of their seats laughing at me, but let me go one step further. Earn and burn was never as easy as it sounded for families, and was always impractical. In this post, I’m going to explain why I think that earn and burn is an outdated idea, especially for family travel.

I figured I would talk today about booking First Class on the A380 with Lufthansa. I travel to Germany frequently, and Lufthansa is one of my favorite carriers, despite the taxes and surcharges. Their premium cabin experience is much better than US airlines. The A380 also gives you the opportunity to fly on the upper deck!

Amex Business card bonuses are now also restricted to ONCE per lifetime! This is horrible news for many of us. The language for these offers used to read that if you have not had the card within the previous 12 months you could receive the bonus again, but now that language is missing from all of the business cards. It states that if you have had the product in the past, that you are not eligible to receive the bonus again.

I was reading a post today on Rapid Travel Chai titled “I Booked an Etihad First Award. Now Do I Belong?” and it brought up some very good points, some of which I have mentioned here in the past. The main point brought up is the idea of booking premium award seats just for the in-flight experience, not simply as a way to get to your destination. Many flight enthusiasts are out to experience every premium cabin seat on every carrier, but I agree with the premise of this post.

I figured that I would take another look at the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa, and specifically compare it to the American Express Starwood Preferred Guest card. Currently, I am using my Starwood Preferred Guest card for non-bonus category purchases since Starpoints are worth so much. Of course with the Marriott purchase of Starwood, the future of the SPG program is unknown at this point. For this reason, I’m taking a look at what card I could use to replace my Starwood Preferred Guest card in case future changes in the SPG program make it a bad deal for everyday spending.

The Citi Hilton HHonors 75K offer is back on the Visa! This is the no-annual fee version of this card offered by Citi. Normally the signup bonus is only 40K points, but it had been as high as 75K points recently.

The Citi ThankYou Premier 50K offer is back on the Citi website again! I had posted almost a month ago that the signup bonus was going to change, and it did change to 40K points for a while, even though there were some backdoor ways to get a 50K offer. If you recently signed up for this card under the 40K offer, you should contact Citi to try and get them to match the 50K offer on your account.

I have never been to Tokyo, and when I noticed recently that there was a good amount of First Class award space available from DFW to Tokyo, I decided to book a trip. I was hoping to be able to book Japan Airlines, but they don’t offer First Class from DFW to Tokyo currently, so I will be traveling on American Airlines. I booked my airfare and hotel just in time for two important deadlines that I will discuss below.

Starwood and Marriott have both announced their 2016 category changes. The good news is that not every hotel will be going up. Some hotels will go down in category, and the award charts for both programs will remain unchanged.
